Big oil: clutching at (paper) straws

They just love to make you hate the planet. 

Bans on plastic straws were orchestrated by big oil, knowing people's overwhelming hatred for paper straws would turn the average punter against environmental initiatives.

Fossil fuel companies also pay the people who throw paint at famous artworks, to induce loathing and contempt of environmental activists. 

I'm not saying I believe it, but I'm not saying I don't believe it.
